Routine Maintenance

Just like an automobile, there are certain maintenance procedures that should be performed regularly on all computers. G.R. Enterprises provides a routine maintenance service which includes the following:

Scandisk - A utility for Dos and Windows that seeks out and repairs hard drive errors.

Disk Defragmenter - A utility that searches hard drives for "fragmented" files and repairs them. Commonly used files often become fragmented. Though unnoticeable at first, over time this diminishes the speed at which your files and programs load. This utility finds the pieces that belong together and reassembles them, as if putting a puzzle together. Using Disk Defragmenter will also provide a more accurate indication of free space.

***NOTE: Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter, though most commonly used on hard drives, may also be used on floppy disks and ZIP disks.***

Driver Update - A driver is like a digital instruction manual. In order for the operating system (e.g. Windows) to properly install and use a device, it needs instructions. Drivers are almost always provided when you purchase equipment, but many times manufacturers release updated versions of those drivers. In fact, sometimes, the newer versions fix problems that may exist with the version that shipped with the product. To keep your PC performing at its top level, drivers should be updated regularly.
